Getting support and legal advice

If you have identified that you are an undocumented child or young person, you can take the following steps:

Get help from someone who understands your situation. Organisations you can contact include:

We Belong – a group of young migrants, who are proud to call the UK home. Their aim is for all migrants to have the chance to contribute fully to British society.

Stand Up Stand Out – a migrant youth-led movement powered by Citizens UK, the home of community organising.

Shpresa – provides advice, help and support to the Albanian community in the UK.

Get free, independent legal advice for your situation. Organisations to contact include:

Coram Children’s Legal Centre – provides direct support to migrant children and families and the professionals who support them.

Just for Kids Law – client-led support to help children and young people.

Project for the Registration of Children as British Citizens (PRCBC) – the only organisation to focus directly on children and young adults and their right to British citizenship.

If you get legal advice from a private solicitor are unsure whether you trust it, consider getting a second opinion.

Once you are satisfied with the advice you get, consider getting a lawyer you trust to work on your case. Make sure you get a good deal by comparing the prices of a few lawyers first.

Please note, you may have to pay for a lawyer to help you with your case because:

  • legal aid is meant to help people unable to pay for a lawyer but can’t be used for most non-asylum immigration cases. However, consider choosing a lawyer who can do legal aid just in case you can apply.
  • there are solicitors and case workers who do immigration cases for free, including:
