Further Education Capital Investment Fund
Please note that the Further Education Capital Fund is now closed to applications. It has been replaced by the Skills for Londoners Fund.
The Further Education Capital Investment Fund provides capital funding for investment in further education in London.
Further education means education after secondary school, but separate from the ‘higher education’ offered at universities. Find out about the fund, the bidding process and the projects of interest.
Why is further education investment needed?
This fund supports London's further education services to make sure they're modern, fit for purpose and able to adapt for the future. London has a dynamic further education system with over 37 colleges and over 50 registered private and work-based learning institutions.
Londoners need the right skills to allow them to compete for career opportunities. These skills can only be delivered if further education institutions are able to work in suitable buildings and are equipped with up-to-date equipment and machinery similar to that used by London’s businesses.
It worked alongside the London Enterprise Panel’s Jobs and Growth Plan for London. This plan identifies four key priorities for investment and intervention:
- skills and employment: to ensure that Londoners have the skills to compete for and sustain London’s jobs
- micro, small and medium sized enterprises: to support and grow London’s businesses
- digital creative, science and technology: for the capital to be recognised globally as a world leading hub for science, technology and innovation, creating new jobs and growth
- infrastructure: to keep London moving and functioning
Where did this funding come from?
This fund was established following an award of:
- £55m in 2015/16 from the first Growth Deal with Government
- £65m for 2016/17 also from the first Growth Deal
