Development service

Developers use our service in London’s boroughs to benefit from more timely utility connections for their projects.

The Mayor’s Infrastructure Coordination Development Service offer has been created in partnership with London boroughs, utility companies and developers transforming the way infrastructure works are managed for developments.

We improve how house builders and Infrastructure providers plan for and commission connections; reducing the risks associated with utilities and highways, improving viability, minimising disruption, reducing costs and preventing delays.

We do this by facilitating effective communication through all stages of work – mitigating delays to project programmes and reducing unforeseen costs.

Our team of skilled and dedicated Infrastructure Coordinators work within boroughs to:

Reduce Disruption to Londoners and Businesses

There are too many examples throughout London where neighbouring development sites have undertaken their utility works individually, excavating the same road to access utilities and making connections each in turn. This is unnecessarily disruptive to Londoners and accelerates the degradation of our infrastructure.

Save Money and Time

We have consistently heard that issues in the organisation of development utility works have cost developers, local authorities, and utility companies dearly. Interventions to improve those processes could yield mutual benefit for all involved and relieve unnecessary additional pressure on development viability.

Enable Better Planning for Good Growth

Development utility works are too often organised reactively and individually, which is not conducive to effective planning for growth. Better mutual engagement between developers, utility companies and local authorities in pre-planning stages would benefit strategic planning and investment.

Provide a Service for London

Currently our coordinators are providing a consistent service across all of London from their host boroughs. Over time, we will be increasing the number of Coordinators and host Boroughs to reflect market need.
