Streets service ways of working
The Streets Service is transforming the way streetworks are delivered across London by driving a ‘dig once’ approach between infrastructure providers. We have been supporting works promoters – utility companies and contractors – and highway authorities – TfL and borough highway teams – to reduce disruption by promoting collaborative working.
Our multi award-winning work facilitates collaborations that deliver the infrastructure needs of today, whilst preparing for the needs of tomorrow, in the most cost-effective and efficient way. Working with London’s infrastructure providers and asset owners, we help to identify, convene and deliver streetworks in a collaborative manner.
A number of direct and indirect beneficiaries are benefiting from these efforts, including Londoners, the environment and economy. Our efforts on data sharing, governance and regulation are bringing about an evolution in the planning and delivery of infrastructure between utility companies and highway authorities, which is saving days of potential disruption at a scale far higher than standard works coordination.
Long term, the Streets Service is committed to helping to embed collaboration as business-as-usual within partner organisations from across the water, gas, power and telecoms sectors. Having piloted this novel approach, we are expanding our focus to partner with more infrastructure providers across London.
