We are committed to being anti-racist, planning for a diverse and inclusive London and engaging all communities in shaping their city.

To help deliver against this commitment, we are focussing our resources on some of the current key challenges, including:

  • Planning industry Workforce Representation.
  • Impact of decisions on Londoners.
  • Our ability to influence other sectors of the planning industry.

Planning service commitment

We are committed to making the GLA Planning team anti-racist, diverse and inclusive and ensuring it represents the city we serve.

In all that we do we will seek to understand better how our actions and decisions potentially contribute towards discriminatory or racist outcomes.

We  will take individual and collective responsibility in challenging behaviours, processes and decision-making both within and outside the GLA.

We will use our work and influence to promote greater representation and inclusivity in the planning system and profession more widely.

Public speaking events

In deciding whether to speak at events, the planning team will prioritise events that:

  • Have an agenda of people speaking at the event are diverse and reflective of the general population of London.
  • have considered racial; ethnicity, gender, sexuality and physical ability and accessibility in putting together the event.

We are committed to proposing speakers that demonstrate these values, however this cannot be the sole diversity of the event.

Industry representation at meetings

To understand how representative the industry using our service is, and to have a data we are currently undertaking monitoring of representation at all of our meetings.

We hope at some point to use this data set as a tool to enable us to consider how we can best influence the industry.
