Explaining how we use and protect your information

If you are asked to provide information when commenting on a specific planning application this is the dedicated privacy page to explain how the GLA Planning & Regeneration team use and protect your information.

Use of PlanApps

PlanApps is the planning application register for the Mayor’s decisions on planning applications referred to the Mayor.  See the Mayor’s Planning Powers web page for more details on the Mayor’s powers for planning applications.

On PlanApps, if you decide to comment on an application, you will be asked to provide the following personal information. See our web page for more details on what happens when you comment on a planning application.

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Email address
  • Phone Number
  • Address

This information may be used to contact you in the below set of circumstances.

The Mayor can call-in applications for his own determination. When this happens, the GLA will use your email and/or address to write to:

  • Notify you that the application has been called in.
  • Notify you if there is a statutory planning consultation to amendments to that planning application.
  • Notify you at least 21 days in advance of a Public Representation Hearing as you will have a right-to-speak at the Hearing should you wish to do so.
  • Notify you if there are any changes to the Mayoral call-in. This can also include occasions where Mayor is no longer the Local Planning Authority for the purposes of determining the application.
  • Seek clarification from you on any specific point you have made in your submission.

In the event of an application being called-in for determination by the Mayor, known as Stage 3, any comment you make through PlanApps will be published on the site. You can request for this to be removed at any time and more information is available on our commenting on a planning application web page.

PlanApps also allows you to sign up to alerts on planning applications. If you decide to opt-in to receive alerts, you will receive them in the below circumstances.

  • If choosing a geographical area, you will receive an email alert every Monday morning at 8am to notify you if new applications have been received in that area. If no applications are received, you will not receive an email that week.
  • If you sign up to alerts on individual planning applications, you will receive alerts as the application moves through the key stages of the planning application lifecycle. These are:
    • When the Mayor makes his initial representation on an application (known as Stage 1).
    • When a Stage 2 application has been validated by the GLA Planning & Regeneration team.
    • When a final decision has been made by the Mayor on the application. This may be a Stage 2, No Strategic Issues or Stopping Up Order decision.
    • If an application is withdrawn by the Applicant.
